Nicasio Woodworks is the collaboration of husband and wife team, Patrick McDonnell and Barbara Contini. Award winning, sculptured hardwood products are made in our small workshop in Nicasio, California. We begin by seeking out beautiful wood and then sculpting the pieces to both
highlight the unique features while creating something that is attractively functional. With a commitment to sustainability, we only work with reclaimed wood.
We have a small showroom at our home/workshop in Nicasio, California If you call/email ahead, you can always come by and browse. At present, we only allow one person/family to visit at a time. Some of our work is sold at Terrestra in Mill Valley and at Dovetail Collections in Healdsburg. While we usually participate in several juried shows, it is unclear whether any of these events will take place in 2020. So for now, the best way to see our work is to come by or we can even offer a tour by Zoom or other virtual tools.
All products are designed for regular use as well as to foster an appreciation for attractive wood. The raw wood is carved to create pieces that are durable, with the idea in mind that they should be used, enjoyed and someday, perhaps, passed down to the next generation. In this way, the stories in the wood become complimented with the accruing stories of the families using them.
All pieces are made using durable hardwood, most frequently walnut, black acacia. maple or oriental acacia. All the wood we use is reclaimed. It is acquired from trees that may be lost during storms or are removed at local land management sites or orchard recycling.
Our focus on visually unique wood has led us to the dramatic and compelling features found in grafted walnut wood. By creating bowls, boards and vases from the section of a grafted walnut tree where the two varieties merge, extraordinary features and patterns can be highlighted. We have created a unique product line, only available from Nicasio Woodworks, called Wedded Wood™. They make ideal wedding or anniversary gifts as the Wedded Wood™ reflects the traits of a good union: expanded purpose that only comes from being together, the ability of each individual to grow in a manner consistent with their heritage, and the complexity of that union becomes beautiful in its own right.
